In the introduction to Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, Mildred Taylor talks about her father as "a master storyteller." Several times during the novel, the author has characters describing their past to the Logan Children. In Chapter 4, for example, Big Ma tells Cassie about she and her husband bought the Logan property. She impresses upon Cassie why the land is so important to the family.
Everybody has a story to tell. It may be a story about family, special interest, or life in general. When you listen to someone talk about his/her life, you are participating in oral history. Usually this history is not written down, but is passed form one generation to the next by storytelling. Ask a parent, grandparent or someone else in your family to share a story that has been passed down. Share your story and your thoughts on it's importance in your family!
Remember to share on the blog and respond to other classmates responses!!
